South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament to support project to build new pedestrian trail bridge
Thirteenth annual charitable golf tournament is to take place on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Ironwood Golf Club east of Exeter
The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament has chosen to donate net proceeds from this year’s charity golf tourney to the community project to build a new pedestrian trail bridge on the South Huron Trail.
The community golf tournament, now hosted by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation, has raised more than $50,000 for the South Huron Trail over the fundraising event’s history dating back more than a dozen years. The golf tournament has raised $14,379 since 2015 towards the construction of Jones Bridge. The 2018 FUNdraiser will continue to support this project, the organizing committee announced. “The South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament organizing committee is proud to support the Pedestrian Trail Bridge Project again this year,” said Bob Radtke, Chairman of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF). “The construction of Jones Bridge will help to make our community safer and more active.”
The 13th Annual South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament takes place on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Ironwood Golf Club at 70969 Morrison Line, two kilometres (about one mile) east of Exeter, just south of Highway 83. The golf tournament includes a hole-in-one contest with a $20,000 prize. The hole-in-one contest is on hole #15 and is sponsored by John Godbolt.
The first 60 paid registrations receive a complimentary bottle of wine (excluding those not of legal drinking age).
The golf tournament committee welcomes event sponsors.
A new pedestrian bridge would be located west of Morrison Line and link the north and south sides of the South Huron Trail so people would not have to walk beside vehicle traffic on the roadway over Morrison Dam in order to enjoy both sections of the trail. The creation of a pedestrian bridge would give people a safer, more scenic alternative to walking on the road. The new bridge is to be suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, strollers, wheelchairs, and the South Huron Trail Mobile (for people with limited mobility). The community has pledged or donated $180,000 to date and a fundraising campaign hopes to raise another $110,000 to make the bridge dream a reality in 2018. Local volunteers started the golf tournament which has raised close to $50,000 towards creation, improvements, and maintenance of the MacNaughton-Morrison Section of the South Huron Trail. Community volunteers have continued to be vital to the tournament’s success since Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation took over the reins.
Thanks go to sponsors and donors who have made it possible for the tournament to support the health, social, environmental, and recreational benefits of the popular trail. The organizing committee invites businesses or groups to be event sponsors.
Organizers of the tourney say the golf tournament is a “FUNdraising event” with an emphasis on fun.
