Bob Down makes platinum-level donation to new pedestrian bridge on South Huron Trail

Another generous community member has made a platinum-level donation to Jones Bridge, a new pedestrian bridge to be built on the South Huron Trail. Bob Down, of the Exeter area, is the latest person to make a donation at this level to help make the community safer and more active.

The Chairman of the Pedestrian Trail Bridge Community Working Group, Dave Frayne, was taking part at the 2018 South Huron Trail Fundraiser Golf Tournament, a Jones Bridge fundraising event where Bob was volunteering. At the tournament, the community group chairman thanked Bob Down for his personal donation to the bridge project. “I would like to convey to Bob my personal thanks, as well as the appreciation of the entire community working group, for this generous donation,” said Frayne. “Donations like this one will help us to realize the dream of making our community safer and more active by building Jones Bridge, a safer and more scenic alternative to walking along the road beside vehicle traffic in order to enjoy both sections of the South Huron Trail.”

Platinum-level donations are donations of $5,000 or more to the Pedestrian Bridge on the South Huron Trail, a project of Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation and many community partners.

Right now, some trail users have to walk beside vehicle traffic along the roadway over Morrison Dam in order to enjoy both sections of the South Huron Trail. A new pedestrian bridge can change that by offering a safer, more scenic alternative. Donations of all sizes are welcome to support the bridge project. Donation levels include Platinum ($5,000 and over); Gold (between $2,000 and $4,999); Silver ($500 to $1,999); and Bronze (donations of all amounts up to $499). Donations to the project, made directly to Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation, are eligible for charitable gift receipts for income tax purposes.

The Pedestrian Trail Bridge Community Working Group held a brief ceremony in June to honour the early Platinum and Gold level donors who kick-started the current fundraising campaign to build Jones Bridge on the South Huron Trail. Bob Down is one of the community members who have donated to the bridge project since that event.

The donation by Bob Down, combined with the $6,000 raised at the 2018 South Huron Trail Golf Tournament, has helped the pedestrian bridge fundraising campaign surpass $220,000 in pledges and donations to date. More is still needed to make the dream reality. To learn more, or to donate, visit abca.ca or phone 519-235-2610 or toll-free 1-888-286-2610. You are also invited to contact any of the members of the community working group.

Platinum-level donations are donations of $5,000 or more to the project, by Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation and community partners, to build a new Pedestrian Bridge on the South Huron Trail. Building the bridge will make the community safer and more active as people won’t have to walk beside the roadway beside vehicle traffic in order to enjoy both sections of the South Huron Trail.
