Bruce Redman Memorial Antique Car Show, Community Day brings return of classic car show, honours memory of long-time organizer

This family-friendly community event is on Saturday, August 26, 2017 and is free to spectators; Mix of vintage cars, nostalgic music, and natural surrounding makes this car show different

The Arkona Lions and Lioness clubs are bringing back a popular antique car show in a nature setting. They’re sponsoring the event in honour of the memory of Bruce Redman, the man who organized the classic car show for a decade. He passed away in 2016. “We wanted to honour Bruce’s contribution to this event and this community,” said Stan Hladki, Treasurer with the Arkona Lions Club, and one of the organizers. “This is a special one for Bruce.”

The Bruce Redman Memorial Antique Car Show and Community Day takes place on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are lots of car shows out there but there aren’t many that take place in beautiful natural surroundings of a park, trails, and a museum. This one does. The antique car show takes place at scenic Rock Glen Conservation Area, 8680 Rock Glen Road, Arkona, Ontario, Canada. There is a gate fee at this tourist destination on other days but spectators enter the park free on the day of the car show.

There is to be food for sale, at the event, by the Arkona Lioness Club. The cost to take part in the car show is only $5 per car entered in the show. The first 100 cars will receive a dash plaque. For more information contact Stan at 519-828-3261.

People attending the show will be able to view rare and beautifully maintained vintage cars. They’ll also be able to enjoy beautiful Rock Glen Falls waterfall; accessible hiking trails, boardwalks, and look-outs; and rare fossils and artifacts at the Arkona Lions Museum and Information Centre. The museum attracts visitors from around the world to see its extensive displays of fossils (many donated by Ted Baxter) and artifacts. The conservation area also has two playgrounds.

Classic car enthusiasts enjoyed listening to classic tunes and bringing their vintage automobiles and trucks to the Arkona area every year for a decade before the car show was discontinued for a time. Bringing back the car show this year is a way to honour a man, Bruce Redman, who worked tirelessly all those years to make the show a success, often attracting 150 or more classic cars.

This is a car show with a difference. It offers vintage automobiles next to gorgeous nature areas. The late Bruce Redman once said that “you can bring the whole family to enjoy all these attractions in one place” at the car show. “It’s a great way to enjoy the great outdoors, get away from it all, and see the care and attention taken by classic car owners,” he said. This year, people will be enjoying those attractions, enjoying the outdoors, and appreciating these antique cars – and they’ll be doing it in Bruce’s memory.
